Nothing To Lose
Don supplied two songs for the movie – a theme song, and a love song for Claudine Longet to sing called ‘Nothing To Lose’. Blake Edwards loved the Longet number. He played it to his wife, Julie Andrews, and she adored it. ‘Nothing To Lose’ became one of her favourite songs.
Mancini and Edwards were so pleased with Black's lyrics for The Party that they recruited him again for their next Sellers film.
Mancini and Black devised a straightforward, if deliberately ‘over-smooth’, love song called ‘Come to me’. Bringing in the sexiest male voice around – Tom Jones – for the vocals, they set it against Clouseau trying manfully to entice a girl into his bed. Sellers trying to be seductive is hysterical, especially when set against Jones’s crooning.
